Amanda Joy Photography – Best of 2018

Best of 2018

Thinking back through 2018, I can’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment and pride. It has been quite a transitional time over here!

Amanda Joy Photography was born not long after my youngest son was born. Because of this, I have always run my business during what I like to call “the fringe hours”. That means, apart from photo sessions, the bulk of my work takes place between the kids bedtime and midnight. Depending on the workload, I’ve stretched that into the wee hours of the morning at times. I can honestly not recommend that enough! But deadlines loom, sick kids happen, the world keeps spinning and the work has to be done! Over the years I have worked plenty of times with either a nursing or sleeping baby on me. There are many nights I have to walk my youngest back to bed from my desk after he comes looking for me in the middle of the night.

2018 ushered in a new season. My youngest baby started playgroup. For the first time since the birth of Amanda Joy Photography, I find myself with three FULL mornings to work on my business each week. Daytime hours. Like, the same hours most people work. Being able to dedicate that extra time to my business the year has really shown in the number of bookings I have been able to take on.

This past year was my busiest yet! I spent time photographing families in both the city and the mountains, as well as spending a wonderful weekend in Napa to learn from two of my mentors. The growth I have made over the last 12 months has been so wonderful and I am beyond thrilled. Education was a big priority and I continued to take online business and photography courses as love pouring new ideas and skills into my customer experience. I was also thrilled to take photos for popular motherhood, life and style blogger and instagram maven Lynzy&co’s family. Just a mention on her instagram stories grew my following majorly overnight and I am already booking up fast for mountain shoots in 2019!! What a blessing!

In 2018 I also made my first business hire! I hired someone to help me with my book keeping. Yip, I’m a creative. Books are not my strong point. I’m so grateful to now have someone do one part of the job I don’t love and enable me to work on the parts I do love! Less time on the books means more time to create. It was a win/win all around!

And then there were the families!

Going through all of the sessions I photographed this year, it is simply impossible to choose a favourite. I am however super grateful to all the families that made the extra effort to head to the hills with me for some truly memorable photo sessions. Basel city also continued to show its best side to perfectly compliment family sessions. I can’t imagine not shooting amongst our beautiful city and I can’t wait to add more to the list next year.

Comment below and let me know which photos you love most! I would love to recreate something for your family in 2019! Drop me a line so I can get you in front of my camera this year!
